About the project
This study investigates the spatiotemporal dynamics of land use and land cover (LULC) change, with particular focus on the expansion of shrimp farming in the Khulna and Bagerhat districts of southern coastal Bangladesh. Using multi-temporal Landsat satellite imagery and Google Earth Engine (GEE), the study analyzes land use transformation over the past 35 years and quantifies the extent to which shrimp aquaculture has transformed agricultural land and/or other land cover types. The research is intended to generate evidence on land conversion dynamics of shrimp farming expansion and provide insights to support sustainable coastal land-use planning and resource management.
Objectives of the Assignment:
- To examine the spatiotemporal expansion of shrimp farming in Khulna and Bagerhat districts over the past 35 years using multi-temporal Landsat satellite imagery and Google Earth Engine (GEE).
- To identify land use and land cover transitions into shrimp farming, including agricultural land, bare land, water bodies, dense vegetation, and settlements.
- To compare the spatial patterns of shrimp farming expansion between the Khulna and Bagerhat districts and identify major regional differences in land use transformation.
