S M Rashidul Islam has been serving as a business journalist and covering national and international events on business and trade. He is a 43-years old journalist with more than 18 years practical experiences on reporting along with performing as a leader of a national platform of the country’s economic and business journalists for more than seven years. Apart from reporting, he organised and moderated a large number of seminars as well as dialogues on trade, economic, environment and compliance issues with national and regional perspectives. To enhance his professional skills, he took part in a number of workshops and trainings. Now, he is looking forward to taking himself to a new height with professional skills and experiences.

Professional Record:
He has been working as a business reporter at Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), national news agency of Bangladesh, since April 2005 with the responsibilities of writing reports and features on financial, trade and environment issues. Banking, capital market, insurance, private sector, trade, commerce and industry sector are the major areas of his interest to work.
Currently, as a Senior Business Reporter in the state-owned news agency, he is covering both national and international events, particularly on trade and commerce, environment and compliance issues. As part of his professional task, he use to interview top policymakers, diplomats, residential chiefs of different international agencies, economists and other distinguished persons. Apart from filing reports on daily events, including covering press conferences, meetings and dialogues on different issues focusing on the trade and commerce, and environment, he also makes analytical story on economic progress both in the national and international arena.

Participation in International Event:
  • He participated in the 13th MC WTO Ministerial Conference in Abu Dhabi, UAE from February 26 to March 1 in 2024 and covered the event.
  • As a fellow, he took part in the 12th MC WTO Ministerial Conference in Geneva from June 12 to 17 in 2022.
  • He also participated in the World Expo hosted by Dubai from October 1 to 6 in 2021 at the invitation of host country.
  • Participated in the Bangladesh Trade Fair held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2015.

  • Permanent member of National Press Club.
  • Permanent member of Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA).
  • Permanent member of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU).
  • Permanent member of Club Shaheen Limited, a membership based private club for ex-students of BAF Shaheen School and College.

Trainings:
  • Participated in a virtual seminar for journalists on economy and trade during the ‘12th Ministerial Conference: Towards a WTO 2.0?’ arranged by WTO from May 31-June 3 in Geneva, Switzerland.
  • Participated in a training programme on “Border Trade’, organized by International Finance Corporation (IFC) in Singapore in 2019.
  • Participated in a four-month training programme on “Business Journalism” organized by Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI), a renowned research organization of Bangladesh, and funded by Department for International Development (DFID) in 2007 in Dhaka.
