Md. Zahidur Rahman is a Faculty Member in the Department of Development Studies at the University of Dhaka. He previously served as an Assistant Professor in the same department at the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), Dhaka. He received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Development Studies from the University of Dhaka. He also holds a master’s degree in Applied Economics from Illinois State University, United States, where he was awarded the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship. In addition, he earned a Graduate Certificate in International Development Studies from the University of Oslo, Norway. Prior to his academic appointments, he worked as a Staff Researcher with the Development Economics Research Unit at BRAC’s Research and Evaluation Division in Dhaka. With nearly twelve years of experience spanning teaching, academic research, and applied development practice, Mr. Rahman has contributed to a wide range of interdisciplinary research initiatives. He has collaborated with leading national and international organizations, including UNDP Bangladesh, Oxfam Bangladesh, GIZ Bangladesh, and the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD). His research interests lie at the intersection of economic development and applied policy analysis, with particular emphasis on international trade, poverty and inequality, labor market dynamics, and the evolving structure of the gig and informal economy. His scholarly work includes articles published in reputable peer-reviewed journals as well as chapters in edited volumes.
