Dr. M. Rezaul Islam

Dr. M. Rezaul Islam is an esteemed academic, currently serves as a Professor of Social Work at the Institute of Social Welfare and Research, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. With a rich academic journey that includes an MSW and a Ph.D. from the University of Nottingham, UK, Dr. Islam brings over 27 years of diverse experience in teaching, research, and global collaborative initiatives. His expertise transcends disciplinary boundaries, enabling him to unravel complex socio-political dynamics. Dr. Islam has been recognized as one of the top 2% of scientists globally. In 2018, he was honored with the UGC Gold Medal for publishing a high-impact journal article. Dr. Islam has contributed significantly to various universities worldwide, including the University of Malaya, the University of Johannesburg, Universiti Sains Malaysia, and the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD). His extensive scholarship covers social work, community development, climate change and disasters, and migration studies, reflected in 120 impactful journal articles, 45 insightful book chapters, and 15 meticulously authored and edited books. Dr. Islam's research spans various topics, such as climate change, migration, and social inequality, with a specific focus on the contexts of South Asia and the Arab world. Advocating for social justice and empowerment, he addresses challenges faced by marginalized communities and champions research-informed solutions. As a doctoral supervisor, Dr. Islam plays a pivotal role in guiding impactful research endeavors, leaving an enduring mark on the advancement of knowledge in these vital domains. He currently serves as a Member of the International Advisory Board of the Community Development Journal (Oxford University Press) and as an editorial board member of three journals: Asian Social Work and Policy Review (Wiley), Local Development & Society (Taylor & Francis), and International Community Well-being (Springer).
