Dr Md Faruk Shah

Dr. Md. Faruk Shah is a medical anthropologist and Associate Professor in the Department of Development Studies at the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh. Before joining this institution, he served as a faculty member in Anthropology at Rajshahi University. He has 15 years of teaching experience at the university level and 17 years as a freelance researcher in the field of social development. He has a sound educational background that includes postgraduate-level education with a PhD in Medical Anthropology from the School of Social Sciences at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Along with teaching, Mr. Shah has carried out substantial research in the domains of health, ethnic minortiy communities, gender, migration, micro-credit programs, and education . He has worked with various international and national NGOs and GOs. He is the author of the book, Biomedicine, Healing and Modernity in Rural Bangladesh, published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2020. Health, education, microfinance, gender, ethnic minority groups, and sustainable development are among his research interests.
